Our History
FROM 2001 TO CURRENT STATUS IN 2015
The Duchy Fish Quota Company was established in 2001 by members of the Cornish fishing industry.
Through a mix of bond sales, public fundraising, corporate donations and local authority loan the not-for-profit company has invested £250k into fishing quota. Over the last five years the company has leased quota to over 50 Cornish vessels, supporting 80 fishing families and, through local fish landings, has added hundreds of thousands of pounds to the local economy. During this time the company has reported an average net profit of 8% and an average annual growth in asset value of 10%.
In 2014/15 the trade in quota has accelerated further with significant transactions occurring at higher price levels, leaving those in the industry powerless to decide its own future – the time to act is now before it is all too late for this iconic Cornish industry.
